Microsoft Outlook 2000 Internet E-mail Configuration
Overview
Microsoft Outlook 2000 is a combination email, calendaring, contact manager
and task manager application. This document explains how Microsoft Outlook
2000 can be configured to send and receive email via your MillerMultimedia account exclusively.
This document refers specifically to Microsoft Outlook 2000
not Outlook
Express, a stand alone email application by Microsoft.
Microsoft Outlook for the Macintosh does not support Internet email; however,
you can use Microsoft Entourage, an application with similar functionality, which is part of Microsoft Office 2004, Microsoft Office 2001 and Office X for the Macintosh.
Disclaimer: Due to the complex nature of Microsoft Outlook, MillerMultimedia provides very limited support for this
product. Specifically only the basic setup and configuration of Internet email
for MillerMultimedia accounts is supported. We do not support the use of Outlook with Microsoft Exchange servers. To resolve issues such as corrupt
files and/or corrupt mailboxes, troubleshooting filters and rules, any issues
involving problems with the calendar, contact list or task list functions please
contact Microsoft's
Support (phone: 1-800-936-3500) directly.
Added Risks of Running Outlook
If you choose Microsoft Outlook to use as an email client, be aware that a
very large percentage of computer viruses are written specifically to target
and exploit vulnerabilities in the Microsoft Outlook email application. Thus,
using Outlook to send and receive email greatly increases the chance of your
computer being infected with a computer virus and spreading it to every email
address in your Outlook contact list. If you decide to use Outlook we strongly
recommend that you install antivirus protection such as Norton Antivirus
and configure your computer to check for virus definition updates daily. Even
with recent virus protection we recommend you exercise extreme caution when
deciding which email attachments you should open. If you can not or do
not wish to use Virus protection and update it daily we strongly recommend you
do not use Outlook.

Additional E-mail Settings: Configuring Outlook so You Can Check E-mail
from Multiple Locations
Many people desire to be able to send and receive mail at more than one location
- for instance from both home and work. If this is the case you will want to
configure MS Outlook to 'Leave mail on the server' for a specific number of
days. You need to specify a specific number of days to leave on the server because
your inbox file on server (which contains all your E-mail) has a typical quota
of 8-10 megabytes. Having Outlook remove files (E-mail) from the server
will help prevent you from exceeding your E-mail quota on the server and will
enhance download performance and decrease the possibility of you having mail
issues such as 'oversized mail' or a 'corrupted inbox.' To configure Outlook
to leave mail on the server so you can check the mail from other machines do
the following:
- In the Internet Accounts Window make sure the account is selected
and then click the Properties button.
- Click on the Advanced tab. Under the Delivery section check
the box next to the words 'Leave Mail on Server.'
Check the box next to the words Remove from server after _ days.
We recommend entering a number somewhere between 5 to 14 days
to leave mail on the server.
- Check the box next to Remove from server when deleted from the 'Deleted
Items.' (This option allows you to immediately trash junk e-mail
from the server by emptying the 'Deleted Items' folder. The next time you
check mail the messages trashed will be removed from the server).
- Click on the OK button.
- Click the Close button.
IMPORTANT: If you experience problems sending
mail, please verify that your settings match the settings specified in this
document. If you continue to have problems using these settings, please check with your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and see if they allow
emails to be sent to server's other than their own. If your ISP restricts outgoing email to their servers, edit your account
and replace the SMTP server name with the SMTP server name your ISP provided you.
